Capture complete measurement sets (compulsory + supplementary + cup/strap relevant) and apply basic validation checks for consistency. 

Needle and stitch selection

Select hand and machine needles and seam types appropriately for different fabrics and operations (documented as a sampler).

Toile workflow

Build and evaluate mock‑ups/toiles and document fit symptoms using standardized photo evidence and notes.

Portfolio deliverables

The full pathway supports an extensive couture portfolio, including corsets and complete gowns, supported by documented process and verification evidence.

Evidence-based portfolio outcomes are integral to this certificate. Students compile a structured portfolio demonstrating drafting accuracy, fit methodology, construction standards, and finishing quality.

Graduate Portfolio 

Students are encouraged to complete:

  • 3 corsets - varied necklines/structures (minimum of 2 corsets/bodices)

  • 5 full gowns - bridal/eveningwear silhouettes and complexity (minimum of 3 garments)

  • Supporting technical evidence for each project (see “Evidence Standards”)


Evidence Standards

Each portfolio piece should include:

  • Pattern evidence: labeled pattern pieces (grainlines, notches, seam allowances, cutting instructions)

  • Fit evidence: mock-up/toile images and a brief fit-correction log (where applicable)

  • Construction evidence: internal construction photos (boning channels, lining, closures, waist support)

  • Finish evidence: close-ups of edges, seams, zippers/grommets, hems, pressing, and symmetry checks

Minimum Requirements to Earn the Certificate (assessed)

  • Completion of Levels 1–4 (160 CPD Hours)

  • Passed knowledge tests

  • Completed and submitted required practical evidence packs

  • Completed final portfolio package with required file structure
